Characteristics of a thriller - Story and setting

In thrillers there a common story that the protagonist of the film faces either a problem, an escape, mission or mystery, and no matter what the sub-genre of the thriller is it will always bring out the danger of what the protagonist faces. In the story each different sub-genres has its own unique methods, however chase scenes and fighting is common. Common plots of thrillers involve the protagonist being conflict, and is often backed-up with a dark atmosphere, which sometimes reflect society. Then the tension comes to arise when the characters is in a sticky situation, Alfred Hitchcock often does this by placing innocent victims into a strange life threatening situation.

The setting of a thriller can change due to the sub-genre, or characters.
